Between three and five kilometers to the west of Chania are the beaches of Chrissi Akti, Agii Apostoloi and Glaros, offering organized swimming facilities, and all awarded yarly with the blue flags. The golden sand of Chrissi Akti (Golden Beach), the beautiful beach of Agii Apostoloi and picturesque Glaros, will make a lasting impression.

In the area of Agii Apostoloi there exists an impressive and monumental construction. Covering many acres, and from a far distant time in the past, are eighty to ninety thousand vertical cylinders carved out of the bedrock.

According to professor McCain, these have been used for fish farming and for other projects. In ancient times, this area was also an important harbor.
